website #2 idea

The next website I will be making in web dev class will be a site dedicated to the hometown team, The Milwaukee Brewers. I haven't figured out how I really wanna set it up page for page but something along the lines of a basic home page with 4 links to the other pages. The other pages would be about the current roster, a history page, a page dedicated to their last play off year, and then a page dedicated to some of the teams hall of fame players.
This will be the color pallet used:

usability test

There are billions of websites in the world. But what is the difference between a successful website and an ineffective one? Many factors can lead to answer that question but a big component in responding to that question is the websites usability. Websites usability should be an easy and a helpful tool to the user to help them in finding the correct information they need fast. In this usability test my website I choose to use was the popular major league baseball website. One of my room mates took the short test and these were his answers.

1. First question is an easy one, find the website for the New York Mets.

This one was easy. You just go to the teams link and click the one for the New York Mets page.

2. Find where you can purchase the "Baseball Voices Milwaukee Brewers Bob Uecker, Mr. Baseball CD".

This was a little more difficult. First I went to the MLB store and went to the brewers store. Then I clicked the DVD & books link and was able to find it.

3. I want to find out some rules to the game about the pitcher, where would I find this?

This question in particular was really tricky. I tried doing a general search but was unsuccessful with it. After a while of examining the website I found at the bottom of the page a link titled "official rules." from there you just click on pitching rules and a list appears of pitching rules.

4. where is the latest news and headlines in baseball?

This is located in the top right corner of the home page.

5. where can I find opening day tickets to the Seattle Mariners game?

Under the Mariners page click the tickets link. From here you click single game tickets and then you can select which day you would like to buy tickets for.

Overall I thought the website's usability is very user friendly. Its real simple to search for your information fast and the website is very well professionally made.

the best site to gather all your baseball information

http://mlb.mlb.com/index.jsp

Compared to the websites that suck sites mlb.com excels in many categories of usability. For starters the page isn't cluttered with random sized pictures and text like many of the worst websites were. Theres much more of a sense of organization with the website. The text is read-able and organized to appeal the eyes. Theres a text color pattern to the site (blue, red, white) rather than a combination of random colors that give the user a headache like in many of the poorer quality websites. Also if you want to find out about a certain baseball team or a headline story its rather easy to find the category your looking for on the table of contents up on top. Another advantage to this website is the headlines are posted in the center with a hover bar over the picture so its easy to see what topic your about to click and read. Compared to poor quality websites mlb.com does not have any broken links at all! Overall this website is very user friendly and is a good trusted source to use if you need to gather any information at all about pro baseball.

terrible website..

http://www.dokimos.org/ajff/

If you ever want to view a website about jesus and also get a headache this is the site for you. This website is poorly made with many reasons to show. First the one thing you notice of the bat is the horrible rainbow color graphic taking up the whole page which is very unappealing to the eye. It catches your attention in all the wrong ways. Also the contents links are put in the center of the page rather on the top. And when you click any of the links from the contents they pages colors dont match at all to the home page. The flash graphics are also very annoying like the bird randomly flying around the page or the cat on the bottom (which really has nothing to do with the content of the site itself). Another big negative to the site is SIDE TO SIDE SCROLLING! That is a very unappealing factor to someone viewing the website and makes it look very unprofessional. Lastly broken links is a huge flaw in this website and can be very annoying to the user. Websitesthatsuck.com was not lying when they posted this one on display.
